In a shared budget, a private bucket is one only you can see: a birthday gift fund, a surprise trip, your own spending money. Its money still counts, so everyone’s left-to-spend stays accurate.

Make a bucket private

Create a new bucket in a shared budget and turn on Private before you tap Create Bucket. The switch only appears in budgets that have more than one person.
A bucket can only be made private when it’s created. An existing shared bucket can’t be taken private, because that would lock everyone else out of it.
To share a private bucket later, open it and turn Private off. Once it’s shared, it can’t be made private again. These can’t be private:
  • Card payment buckets, because the card is visible to everyone.
  • Savings buckets that mirror an account, for the same reason.

What everyone else sees

Everything tied to the bucket stays hidden too: its activity, the rules that fill it and its link to a funding schedule.
Purchases stay visible because they’re on an account everyone on the budget can see. Only the bucket they’re in is private.

What only you get

  • Bill reminders and price-hike notifications for a private bill go only to you.
  • The bucket appears in your Buckets tab with a Private badge, and you can edit, fund and assign to it like any other bucket.

When you leave

If you leave a shared budget or are removed from it, your private buckets there are deleted rather than revealed. The same happens if you delete your Copper account. Their money goes back to left-to-spend. If you want to keep that money set aside for the others, turn Private off before you go.
