Round-ups turn every purchase into a little saving. Copper rounds each purchase up and moves the spare change from left-to-spend into a bucket you choose, usually a goal.

Turn on round-ups

Go to Settings › Round-Ups. Below the boost, Copper shows what a $4.30 purchase would save with your settings. Tap Save when you’re done.
Round-ups belong to the whole budget, so in a shared budget only the owner can change them.

How the math works

Copper rounds the purchase up to the next whole step, then multiplies the difference by your boost. A purchase that’s already a whole step, like 20.00whenroundingto20.00 when rounding to 1 or $5, saves nothing.

Which purchases round up

Every purchase rounds up once, as soon as it arrives: pending or posted, on checking or on a card, including purchases you log with Apple Pay. These don’t:
  • Credit card payments
  • Transfers out
  • Loan payments
If a pending charge posts for a different amount, its round-up is worked out again. If a transaction is deleted or excluded, its round-up goes back to left-to-spend.

Pause when money’s tight

With Pause when money’s tight on, round-ups hold back when you can least afford them:
  • During a heads-up. While Copper expects you to run short before payday, round-ups stop until the paycheck lands. See Heads-up alerts.
  • Near zero. A round-up never takes left-to-spend below $0. If only part of it fits, only that part moves.
With the pause off, round-ups keep going even when left-to-spend is low or already negative.

Turn round-ups off

Choose Off under Save to and tap Save. Money already saved stays in the bucket.
